Commissioned Portrait Paintings and Drawings

Creating a commissioned portrait is a very special experience. I enjoy it immensely, and I am always delighted to see my client’s reaction when they come to collect their drawing or painting.

There are two options: you can commission either a drawing or a painting. Scroll down for more information about commissioned portrait paintings.

All portraits are drawn entirely by hand in pencil, charcoal, Conté crayon, or pastel, with meticulous attention to detail. Painting and drawing are my passion, and I love creating a special commissioned artwork for someone.

How Does a Portrait Drawing Commission Work?

Depending on the size, a drawing takes me between 10 and 30 hours to complete. Sometimes I leave a few days between drawing sessions, but a portrait drawing can usually be completed within a week.

Would you like me to frame it for you, with or without a mount? That is also possible. I will discuss your preferences with you beforehand.

Sizes and Prices

Dimensions are listed in centimetres and inches, and prices are in euros (€). Prices are based on a portrait of one person. Please contact me to discuss the price of a drawing featuring multiple people.

Complex backgrounds and additional subjects incur an extra charge. Custom sizes are available upon request.

Reference Photograph

A high-quality reference photograph is essential—please see my photography guide.

Once we have agreed on a reference photograph, full payment is required in advance to confirm your booking. Please note that this payment is non-refundable.

If I am working on several commissions, your portrait will be added to my waiting list. Once I am fully booked for six months, I will close the waiting list and announce when bookings become available again.

Shipping

Your drawing will be supplied unframed and unmounted. It will be shipped securely between two MDF boards to ensure that it arrives undamaged.

Every portrait comes with a hand-signed certificate of authenticity.

Worldwide shipping is free. You are also welcome to collect your artwork from my studio.

Custom Prints

Prints and cards featuring your portrait can be created upon request, provided this is arranged before the original artwork is shipped.

Personalised Oil Paintings

A personalised painting creates a profound connection through symbolism that holds special meaning for you. The result is a unique work of art tailored entirely to your wishes and dreams.

I would love to create a special artwork for you. For the best result, I recommend approaching the possibilities with an open mind. This gives me the creative freedom to interpret your ideas in my own way and bring them to life.

You can choose the surface on which your portrait is painted. It can be created on an MDF panel or on canvas. I make my linen canvases myself and prepare them using traditional methods. This means the canvas will not require retightening and can remain in excellent condition for hundreds of years—in short, it is museum quality.

Portrait Painting with a Background

Painting a portrait with a detailed background, such as flowers or a garden, requires many additional hours of work. The prices for paintings with a background are therefore as follows:

How Long Will It Take?

Creating an oil portrait takes time because this technique involves building up multiple layers. I work carefully in stages, allowing each layer to dry before continuing. This means there are often a few days between painting sessions.

On average, I spend between 10 and 80 hours on a single portrait, depending on its size and level of detail. Even so, a painting is usually completed within one month because I plan the work carefully and continue working on other elements between sessions.

You can also choose to have the painting professionally framed by me, allowing you to receive a completely finished artwork. I create not only the painting itself but can also take care of the framing for you.

Before I begin, we will discuss your preferences, including the size, colour palette, and style. I will also be happy to advise you on what would work best in your interior.

The result will be a unique, handmade work of art, created especially for you with love and attention.
