The Gem – 23-Layer Reduction Linocut – Limited Edition of 10
The Gem is an original, hand-printed reduction linocut created in 23 layers.
The first 12 layers were printed from one complete linoleum block. I then cut the block into separate sections and continued printing with these individual pieces. This combination of reduction printing and sectional block printing made the process technically complex, intensive and emotionally challenging.
Because the original block was progressively carved and divided during the process, the artwork can never be reproduced beyond the existing edition.
The Meaning Behind The Gem
The inspiration for The Gem came from both its colours and its symbolism.
The gemstone that Jesus holds in his hand and carries over his heart represents inner wisdom. The message of the artwork is simple yet all-encompassing: when you listen to your heart, you already know what you need to know.
The Final Work in the Light Series
Together with Guardian Angel of Nature and Guardian of the Light, The Gem completes my series centred on the message of light.
It is the final artwork in this three-part sequence within my Angel Series, which explores inner light, consciousness and the connection between the human and the soul.
